We’ve just completed our 3rd annual “New Media Gufa” at the Hotel Mandap in Thamel.  It was leaner, meaner and more focused–like Nepali journalists.

Dharma Adhikari , founder of the Media Foundation of Nepal: mfnepal.org (UP SOON) has been working with Himalayan Aid for the past three years on this project, and nothing could be more important for us.

Traditionally and historically, Nepal’s media have been a silent, compliant group:  steadfastly following the dictates of upper level management bias in their writing.   The New Media Gufa helps them break away their controlled environs by offering the chance for Nepal’s media professional to bind together for a weekend as colleagues.

From this, we are witnessing national media standards emerge as well as daily journalism outputs that reflect a more probing and independent voice.

Peer pressure is a wonderful thing.
